HISTORY OF FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT

The land of Phu Hoa district from the Nguyen Lords to the Tay Son and early Nguyen dynasties basically belonged to the southern cantons of Dong Xuan district. In 1899, Tuy Hoa district was upgraded to Tuy Hoa prefecture. At that time, Tuy Hoa prefecture had 5 cantons, of which Hoa Binh canton was part of Phu Hoa district; in 1900, Hoa Tuong canton was established, including a number of villages and communes on Phu Hoa land. From the beginning of the 20th century to 2002, the division of administrative units of Phu Hoa district was associated with the formation and development of the old Tuy Hoa prefecture, Dong Hoa and Tay Hoa districts, and Tuy Hoa city today. According to Decree No. 15/2002/ND-CP dated January 31, 2002 of the Government, Tuy Hoa town was divided into two administrative units: Tuy Hoa town and Phu Hoa district.

Currently, the administrative unit of Phu Hoa district consists of 8 communes and one town. The average population of Phu Hoa district is about 105,420 thousand people of the Kinh, Cham, H'roi, Hoa, Tay ethnic groups, accounting for about 12.1% of the province's population. The average population density is 400 people/km2, mainly concentrated in the plain communes.
As a district located in the delta of the Da Dien River in the past and now Da Rang, Phu Hoa people have soon developed agricultural economy, exploiting land advantages to turn this area into one of the province's high-yield rice granaries. In addition, handicrafts such as weaving, rice paper, vermicelli making, etc. are also quite developed, creating a diverse economic appearance.
